Minimum age
Each province sets its own minimum age for gambling. It is 19 in Ontario and British Columbia and 18 in Quebec and Alberta.
Tools to look for
Decide how much money and time you can spend before you start, and stick to it. Our reviews check which of these tools a casino offers:
- limits on deposits, losses, bets and session time
- reality checks that show how long you have played
- a time-out for a short break
- self-exclusion for a longer period
The responsible gambling section of each review lists the tools the casino has.
Where to get help
Every province and territory has its own helpline. These four are toll-free and answer 24 hours a day:
- Ontario: ConnexOntario, 1-866-531-2600
- Quebec: Jeu : aide et référence, 1-800-461-0140
- British Columbia: Gambling Support BC, 1-888-795-6111
- Alberta: Addiction Helpline, 1-866-332-2322
Jeu : aide et référence also helps people who are worried about someone else's gambling. The Responsible Gambling Council lists the helplines for every province and territory on responsiblegambling.org.
